Every Veterans Day, communities across the country come together for one important purpose: to recognize and thank the men and women who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. This year, Veterans Day falls on Wednesday, November 11, 2026, and celebrations are taking on added significance as the nation commemorates America’s 250th anniversary.
From solemn ceremonies and wreath-layings to colorful parades, concerts and family celebrations, there are plenty of opportunities to honor our nation’s veterans.
Here are some of the notable events already planned for Veterans Day 2026.
A National Tribute at Arlington National Cemetery
One of the nation’s most meaningful Veterans Day traditions will once again take place at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia. On November 11, the National Veterans Day Ceremony begins at 11 a.m. with a wreath-laying at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. A ceremony in the Memorial Amphitheater follows, bringing together veterans, military leaders, dignitaries and members of the public to pay tribute to all who have served.
Veterans Take Center Stage in Washington, D.C.
The nation’s capital will begin commemorating Veterans Day a few days early with the National Veterans Parade on Sunday, November 8. The procession will travel along Constitution Avenue, beginning near the National Archives and continuing toward the White House. A marching-band field show is also planned for November 7 on the National Mall, making it a patriotic weekend in Washington.
Birmingham Continues a Proud Veterans Day Tradition
Few cities have a Veterans Day history quite like Birmingham, Alabama. The city hosted what is recognized as the first National Veterans Day celebration in 1947, years before Armistice Day was officially renamed Veterans Day.
That tradition continues in 2026 with Birmingham’s 79th National Veterans Day Parade, scheduled for November 11 from 1 to 4:30 p.m. downtown. An awards dinner is also planned for November 10.
San Diego Celebrates Its Military Community
With its deep military ties, San Diego is another great place to spend Veterans Day. The city’s Veterans Day Parade is scheduled for November 11 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. along Harbor Drive. This year’s parade will commemorate the 35th anniversary of Operation Desert Storm, with marching bands, historic military units, vintage vehicles and patriotic performers expected to participate.
The celebration extends well beyond the parade. Fleet Week San Diego runs November 6–15, bringing military displays, Navy and Coast Guard ship tours, technology exhibits, music and other activities to the waterfront. A Veterans and Military Boat Parade is also planned for November 11.
A Special Veterans Day at the Reagan Library
The Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California, will host its annual Veterans Day Commemoration on November 11. Visitors can expect an honor guard, live music, military vehicles and historical displays, along with an 11 a.m. program.
Veterans will also receive complimentary museum admission with valid identification, making the day an opportunity for veterans and their families to enjoy the museum while taking part in the commemoration.
Orlando Honors Veterans and Their Families
In Florida, the 27th Annual Orlando Veterans Day Parade takes place Saturday, November 7, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Lake Nona Town Center.
The 2026 theme, “Veterans Helping Veterans and Their Families,” puts the spotlight on the continued service and support veterans provide long after leaving the military. A special ceremony will follow the parade.
Midland Combines Patriotism, Music and Fireworks
Veterans Day celebrations will also get underway early in Midland, Texas, where a community celebration is planned for Saturday, November 7.
The festivities are expected to include a Commemorative Air Force flyover, Veterans Day parade, veteran-owned vendors, guest speakers and family activities. The day will conclude with fireworks and a free concert by the Eli Young Band.
More California Communities Join the Celebration
Several additional California cities have already announced their Veterans Day plans. Victorville will hold its 30th Annual Veterans Day Parade & Ceremony beginning at 9 a.m., while Murrieta will host its Veterans Day Parade beginning at 10 a.m.
In Beaumont, a 10 a.m. parade will be followed by an 11 a.m. ceremony, a Memorial Plaza ribbon-cutting and a luncheon for veterans and their families.
A Day to Say Thank You
Whether you attend a large national ceremony, cheer from the sidelines of a hometown parade or simply take a moment to thank a veteran in your life, Veterans Day is about much more than a day off from work or school. It is an opportunity to recognize the service, sacrifice and commitment of the millions of Americans who have worn our nation’s uniform.
And with more Veterans Day 2026 events expected to be announced throughout October and early November, communities large and small will have plenty of opportunities to come together and say two simple but meaningful words: Thank you.
