As the nation prepares to celebrate its 250th anniversary, Navy Federal Credit Union is teaming up with the National Flag Foundation as the national presenting sponsor of the Light to Unite initiative, a nationwide effort encouraging communities to come together in a shared display of patriotism and unity.
On July 4 at 9 p.m. ET, Americans across the country are invited to illuminate their homes, businesses and community spaces in red, white and blue. On social media, they’re also encouraged to tag @NationalFlagFoundation and #LightToUnite when sharing photos or videos of their lights.
Light to Unite is endorsed by America250 and supported by a broad coalition of civic, labor and Veterans organizations, including the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, National League of Cities, National Sheriffs’ Association, United Steelworkers and more.
The celebration also marks the culmination of the National Flag Foundation’s Flag Sojourn 250 campaign, a yearlong journey that has taken a ceremonial American flag to 10 countries, 26 military cemeteries and 50 U.S. states and territories. For the final chapter, there will be 13 gatherings in Pittsburgh, PA before over 200 American Legion Riders carry the Flag from Pittsburgh to Washington, D.C. on July 4.
