After 21 years of distinguished service in the Navy, Sharonda Perry embarked on a new mission: business ownership. Today, as the owner of a ComForCare franchise in Arlington, Texas, Perry’s dedication to service continues, albeit in a different capacity. Her path from Chief Aviation Electronics Technician to franchise owner exemplifies how military values can seamlessly translate into the business world.

A Call to Serve Beyond the Uniform

Perry’s transition to business ownership was deeply personal. Following her retirement from the Navy, she faced a significant challenge when her beloved grandmother was diagnosed with dementia. Determined to provide the best care possible, Perry immersed herself in the home care industry. Her extensive research into safety and well-being for older adults ensured her grandmother received top-notch care and ignited a passion for helping others navigate similar challenges.

In 2022, Perry turned that passion into action, establishing her own ComForCare franchise. The company specializes in providing in-home care services, including assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs) and support for seniors and individuals recovering from illness or injury. “ComForCare’s mission to enhance quality of life and foster independence resonated deeply with me,” Perry explains. “It’s about giving families peace of mind while providing personalized care tailored to their loved ones’ needs.”

Lessons from the Navy

Reflecting on her military career, Perry identifies the values of discipline, empathy and unwavering support as cornerstones of her leadership style—both in the Navy and now as a business owner. “The Navy taught me that everyone matters,” Perry shares. “My job was always to support my brothers and sisters in uniform. Now, I carry that same ethos into my business, ensuring that every family and individual we serve feels valued and supported.”

As a Chief Aviation Electronics Technician (E-7), Perry held several key assignments, including two forward deployments to Japan. Her first was aboard the USS Kitty Hawk (CV-63), and her last was with VAW-125 aboard the USS Ronald Reagan (CVN-76). Among her most rewarding experiences, she highlights her time as an instructor, mentoring and training Sailors across various platforms. “Those tours taught me the true essence of servant leadership,” she recalls. “It’s about empowering others to succeed.”

Business Excellence

The skills Perry honed in the Navy have proven invaluable in her role as a franchise owner. “The military emphasizes discipline and structured approaches,” she explains. “In business, that translates to having a clear plan, sticking to budgets and maintaining a consistent work ethic. Risk assessment and contingency planning, both crucial in the military, are equally important in managing a business.”

Perry also underscores the importance of precision and attention to detail, traits ingrained during her military career. “Every aspect of my operation is carefully managed to ensure quality and efficiency,” she says. “Our clients trust us to provide exceptional care, and we strive to exceed their expectations.”

Veterans in the Home Care Industry

Perry is not the only veteran contributing to ComForCare’s success. The franchise employs several veterans whose military service makes them uniquely suited for the home care industry. “Veterans bring discipline, adaptability and a strong sense of duty to the table,” Perry notes. “These qualities are crucial when providing care and support to families during some of the most challenging times of their lives.”

A Mission That Matters

The transition from military service to franchise ownership has been profoundly fulfilling for Perry. “Helping families and older adults navigate care decisions is incredibly rewarding,” she says. “It’s an honor to bring comfort and peace of mind to those we serve.”

As she continues to grow her business, Perry remains committed to the values instilled during her Navy career. Her journey is a testament to the power of service, both in uniform and beyond, and the impact one can make when leading with compassion and purpose.
