At the invitation of Chancellor John K. Pierre, Southern University and A&M College hosted Emmy-winning journalist Harris Faulkner, host of FOX News Channel’s (FNC) Outnumbered and The Faulkner Focus, on Sunday, Feb. 23 to acknowledge her contributions to journalism and community. Faulkner, who is the first recipient of the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence and Lifetime Achievement, met with student groups. She also broadcasted FNC’s “The Faulkner Focus” live from campus on Monday, February 25. “This special event on campus is designed to celebrate Ms. Faulkner’s extraordinary accomplishments and contributions to journalism, while also highlighting her trailblazing career and personal story — both of which continue to inspire countless individuals across the nation,” Pierre said.
Also during the ceremony, Louisiana State Senator Regina Barrow announced that February 23 is “Harris Faulkner Day.”
“Therefore, be it resolved by my fellow Regina Astra Barrow, that today be declared Harris Faulkner Day on behalf of the State Senate. I also have a proclamation here on behalf of my colleague in the House of representative, also stating that the House of Representatives join me in declaring today is the day. But they also highlight your special work in the field with breast cancer awareness. So again, we thank you. We love you. And thank you for joining us here today. Thank you so much”.
On Sunday, Faulkner met with Southern’s ROTC cadets. Faulkner expressed interest in speaking with these students because of her involvement with the Green Beret Foundation, which provides medical, transition, and family support for those who have served in the U.S. Army Special Forces, and with the Navy SEAL Foundation, which provides immediate and ongoing support and assistance to the Naval Special Warfare community and its families. In May 2024, Faulkner debuted a FOX Nation special entitled Footsteps of My Father, in which she retraced her father’s service during the Vietnam War, in which he served three tours as a U.S. Army officer and Army Aviator.
Faulkner, also a New York Times bestselling author, also met student journalists and those who are majoring in mass communication. She discussed her background, including her journey from being a mass communication student to receiving six EMMY awards for her professional work.
Faulkner joined FOX News Channel in 2005 and currently helms two top-rated daily daytime programs, The Faulkner Focus (weekdays, 11AM-12PM/ET) and serves as the co-host of Outnumbered (weekdays, 12-1PM/ET). Throughout her tenure with the network, Faulkner has played integral roles in FNC’s election coverage. On Inauguration Day 2025, Faulkner contributed to the extensive coverage live from Washington, D.C. Faulkner also covered the 2024 presidential primary during which she presented a series titled “Families in Focus,” where she interviewed family members of the then presidential candidates, and broadcast live from Milwaukee, Wisconsin during the Republican National Convention. Additionally, Faulkner has hosted numerous primetime specials focusing on a variety of current events and in March 2020, Faulkner, alongside Bill Hemmer, co-moderated a two-hour virtual town hall with President Donald Trump and members of the White House coronavirus task force. The town hall made cable news history with a record 4.4 million viewers. A bestselling author, Faulkner’s 2023 “Faith Still Moves Mountains,” published by the FOX News Books imprint reached number one on the New York Times bestsellers list. In 2018, she debuted “9 Rules of Engagement: A Military Brat’s Guide to Life and Success.” A graduate of The University of California at Santa Barbara, Faulkner holds a B.A. in Mass Communications. She resides in New Jersey with husband Tony Berlin and their two daughters.
