Whether taking a break or visiting family, veterans can stretch their travel budgets thanks to hotel discounts offered by major lodging brands. From Hilton to Hyatt, many companies continue to recognize military service through discounted leisure rates designed specifically for veterans, retirees and their families.
Many national and international hotel groups maintain “military” or “government/military” rate categories. These rates require proof of eligibility at check-in—such as a valid military ID, a veteran ID card or a DD214—and may apply to both leisure travel and official duty stays.
IHG, which includes Holiday Inn and InterContinental among its 20 brands, offers a “Military Rate” for active-duty service members, veterans, retirees and their families. The discount amount varies by property but generally starts around 5% off the best flexible rate and may be higher, according to IHG’s official program page. Hyatt similarly lists a 10-15% discount for U.S. veterans, active-duty personnel and immediate family at participating U.S. hotels using the promo code “MILVET.”
Before booking, veterans should always select the “military” or “government/military” rate when searching online and compare that offer with other available rates, such as loyalty or advance-purchase discounts.
Among the most reliable hotel chains offering verified veteran discounts are Hilton, Wyndham, Choice Hotels and Best Western. Hilton’s Military Family Rate applies to U.S. active-duty members, retired veterans and their families for stays in the U.S. or Canada. Wyndham Hotel Group—whose brands include Days Inn, Ramada, Super 8 and Wyndham Garden—extends up to 20% off the best available rate to service members, veterans and family members, verified through ID.me.
Choice Hotels, which operates Comfort Inn, Clarion and Quality Inn, offers military and government rates at participating properties, sometimes paired with free loyalty-status upgrades. Best Western also features a Military Discount program across more than 5,000 locations in the U.S. and Canada through its official site.
These simple steps ensure that veterans get the best possible deal while traveling. For frequent travelers, enrolling in a loyalty program can add further value—some hotel chains award bonus points or status to veterans who book under military rates, creating additional savings over time.
While the average discount typically ranges from 10% to 20%, the true value lies in knowing that these offers are designed to honor military service. Each booking not only saves money but also reflects an industry-wide commitment to giving back to those who’ve served.
