The 2024 Business Beyond the Battlefield Conference (BBBC) culminated in another huge success. More than 250 military-connected entrepreneurs participated in the one-day summit designed to change the narrative of how veterans are perceived.
“Veterans are more than the challenges we may have faced; we are capacity builders who continue to serve our nation with an exceptional blend of leadership, resilience and innovation in a variety of ways,” remarked Patrick E. Alcorn, the conference founder.
Noting that as of 2023, there were approximately 1.4 million veteran-owned businesses in the United States, employing over 11 million people. These businesses contribute significantly to the U.S. economy, generating an estimated $1.2 trillion in annual revenue.
BBBC is more than a social gathering—it’s an annual opportunity to showcase small businesses run by veterans while equipping them with the tools and resources needed to thrive in the business world.
“My disability does not define me. What I have is not who I am; I am a capacity builder,” said one attendee as she posed for a picture with the conference mantra banner. By highlighting veterans who are actively serving in a wide range of industries, including professional services, retail, construction, manufacturing, health care and more, BBBC is showcasing the critical thinkers, problem solvers, founders, franchisees and independent business owners who are contributing to the economic growth of their communities.
BBBC is changing the narrative and shifting its focus from the wounds of war to the strengths of those who served and continue to serve in a business beyond the battlefield. For more information on the next BBBC, taking place Oct. 8-10, 2025 in Arlington, Texas, visit bbbc.uta.edu.
