Film lovers and military-community insiders, get ready: the GI Film Festival is making a special November comeback in Washington, D.C., and it’s bringing some of its most powerful stories back to the screen.
What’s Happening?
From November 4 to November 5, the festival will host “Best of the Fest”, a two-day showcase featuring 13 standout films drawn from across the past decade of GI Film Festival programming. These aren’t just any films — they’re a curated selection of narratives and documentaries that highlight military, veteran, and family experiences.
Screenings will take place at the NCTA – The Internet & Television Association in D.C. The schedule is packed:
- Nov 4: Two evening shows (6:00 PM & 7:45 PM)
- Nov 5: Three showings (3:15 PM, 5:30 PM, 7:45 PM)
Best part? Tickets are free, though you’ll want to reserve ahead via GIFilmFestival.org.
Why This Festival Matters
Originally born in D.C. before relocating to San Diego, the GI Film Festival has a long history of bridging military and civilian communities through storytelling. The “Best of the Fest” is part celebration — revisiting films that resonated — and part mission, reinforcing the importance of authentic military voices in cinema.
Each film showing will be followed by Q&A sessions and discussions, featuring filmmakers, veterans, and subject-matter voices. It’s not just watching — it’s engaging.
Featured Films to Watch
Some standout titles in the lineup:
- “Triumph Over Prejudice: The Montford Point Marines” opens the festival.
- “USS Indianapolis: The Legacy” closes things out — a powerful, award-winning documentary.
Expect stories of courage, resilience, sacrifice and legacy — often told with fresh angles or previously unheard voices.
