At Alight, support for veterans isn’t a symbolic gesture—it’s a foundational value backed by action, innovation and genuine understanding. As a 2025 Top Veteran-Friendly Employer, Alight has built a workplace that not only welcomes veterans and military spouses but thrives because of their inclusion.
Rob Sturrus, Chief Client Officer at Alight, has been with the organization for nearly 27 years. During that time, he’s witnessed the company evolve—but its commitment to service members has remained steadfast. “Being named a Top Veteran-Friendly Employer in 2025 is more than just a badge of honor,” Sturrus said. “It’s an affirmation of the values that we live. This recognition validates the work we’ve done to create a supportive workplace for veterans and military families.”
Alight supports the military-connected community through robust initiatives, such as MAPS—the Military Assimilation Program to Success. This homegrown program helps veterans and spouses transition into corporate life with dual pillars: caring for one’s place at Alight and promoting well-being. From translating military job experience to mentoring through a “buddy system,” the program ensures veterans aren’t just onboarded—they’re understood and empowered.
The support doesn’t stop at employment. Alight is also a three-time Top 10 Military Friendly and Military Spouse Friendly Employer and received a 5-star rating from VETS Indexes in 2025. These honors reflect a sustained and evolving commitment to military talent. Team Valor, the company’s veteran and ally employee resource group, offers a strong network of over 100 members focused on mentorship, development and community outreach.
Sturrus emphasized that the value of hiring veterans goes beyond patriotism. “Many companies hire veterans—but not all can answer the ‘why.’ We believe the veteran and military spouse community brings different skills, backgrounds and training. It’s not just the right thing to do—it’s good business sense.”
Military spouses, often overlooked by traditional hiring models, are also prioritized at Alight. With flexible policies like five paid days off for permanent change of station (PCS) moves and full support for Hiring Our Heroes’ “4+1 Commitment,” Alight demonstrates that it truly “gets” military family life. “The comment I get casually is, ‘You get me, you understand me like others don’t.’ And that was really our intent,” Sturrus said.
When asked about the qualities veterans and spouses bring, Sturrus spoke of leadership, crisis management and organizational strength. “Veterans often bring calm to crisis situations because they’ve been trained to act rationally and effectively during critical situations. That strength is often overlooked in corporate settings,” he explained.
Looking ahead, Alight is excited about the intersection of military talent and rapidly evolving technologies. “We’re really excited to tap into the amazing training programs the military offers, especially as we expand in AI and tech,” Sturrus, pictured, said.
In a corporate world where adaptability and leadership are essential, Alight is proving that veteran inclusion is more than a program—it’s a pathway to excellence.
